A GenAI studio · Afton, Minnesota

Ideas, taken from zero to flight.

Prairie Birdhouse is a small studio that builds bespoke AI software — working prototypes in days, not decks in quarters. Everything runs, and every project gets a bird.

How we work

Bespoke GenAI, built the way a birdhouse is built.

By hand, to fit the bird. We work with organizations that have a real problem and no appetite for a six-month discovery phase. You bring the problem; we bring working software fast enough to argue with.

Stage 01

Hatch days to a prototype

Zero to a working prototype in days — real AI, real data, something you can put in front of real people.

Stage 02

Fledge prototype to pilot

Prototype to pilot. We run it with your actual visitors, customers, or staff, and shape it around the truth instead of the plan.

Stage 03

Fly pilot to production

Pilot to production. Hardened, monitored, priced honestly, and handed over in a state your team can live with.

The lab

Magpie

Six AI tools for institutions that show things to the public. Built for museums first, now pointed at zoos as well. Five run today; you can open any of them.

Client work — a field guide

Every project gets a bird.

Work built for a specific client and running in their business. A gold dot means it is live today.

Watches social signals, Amazon movement and retail scan data to spot consumer brands about to break out, before anyone in the room has heard of them.

Who it's for

Consumer-goods sales teams, where knowing what is about to be big is the whole job.

About the studio

One builder, many birds, all Minnesota.

Prairie Birdhouse is run by Jon Piepho — a GenAI practitioner by day, a builder by night, and the proprietor of a long list of small businesses that mostly made tens of dollars. He lives on a farm in Afton, throws pottery, and helps his wife grow flowers.

We keep the roster small on purpose. Fewer projects, built better, each one flown all the way home.
